Registers of Scotland – Crofting Register
Registers of Scotland – Crofting Register
The crofting register is a public register of crofts, common grazings, and other land. It is separate from our own register of crofts because it shows boundaries of crofts on a map.
The crofting register is not yet complete. We are working closely with Registers of Scotland to build up this map-based register, which will eventually replace ours. A croft must be registered on the crofting register when a “trigger event” occurs, such as when you apply to us for certain changes.
How to register a croft
- Who and when to apply: This depends on the trigger event. You can find more information on the Registers of Scotland website.
- Forms: The most common forms are the first registration (FORM A) and the subsequent event (FORM B) applications.
- Maps: You must include a map of the croft’s boundary with your application. You can find details on how to prepare one on the Registers of Scotland website.
- Fees: There is a fee for each application to the crofting register, which is currently £90.
Why it’s important
Many applications to us cannot be processed until a first registration (FORM A) has been submitted to the crofting register.
For crofts already on the register, our decision will not take effect until a subsequent event (FORM B) form is submitted to register the change.
Pages in our applications and notifications section explain the specific registration requirements for each application type.
